Due to the in Sweden held 1958 World Cup , where the Argentine national team took part in the regular league play in had Primera División be interrupted. The Swedish ambassador then donated a trophy, the winner of which was to be played by the teams in the Argentine first division during the break. However, the tournament dragged on beyond the three-month break between April and July 1958 until 1960.

Racing Club Avellaneda directly prevailed in Group A with ten wins in 14 games, while in Group B Club Atlético Atlanta and CA Rosario Central finished the round tied and in a play-off, the Atlanta with a 1-0 victory for themselves decided who had to determine the finalist. In the final on April 29, 1960 Club Atlético Atlanta was crowned the winner of the competition with a 3-1 win. The club is run by the Argentine Football Association as an additional champion in 1958 alongside the regular champion River Plate .
