history
Club Deportivo San José was founded on March 19, 1942 in Oruro , a city with more than two hundred thousand inhabitants in the Bolivian region of the same name in the west of the country. Thirteen years later, the club won its first title, that of the national champion of Bolivia , but at that time as a non-professional club.
After professional football was introduced in Bolivia, Club San José developed into a real top club in the 1980s. In 1995 a title as a professional team could be won for the first time. The club added a second title to the 1995 championship, which was achieved in the 2007 season. To date, Club San José has participated in the Copa Libertadores , the most important tournament for club teams in South America, four times . While the first round was not survived in three appearances, Club San José made it into the second round of the 1996 Copa Libertadores as third in the group behind América de Cali and Atlético Junior , both from Colombia , as well as in front of the league rivals Club Deportivo Guabirá , where one however Barcelona SC Guayaquil from Ecuador failed on penalties.
