Jorge Wilstermann is a Bolivian football club from Cochabamba . The club, which was founded on November 24, 1949, has won the Bolivian football championship ten times and is also known as Los Aviadores (the aviators).
Club history
The association was founded in 1949 by workers from the airline Lloyd Aéreo Boliviano and was initially called San José de la Banda . The club colors were blue and white. After four years, the club was renamed Club Deportivo Jorge Wilstermann in honor of Bolivia's first professional pilot , and the club colors were changed to red and blue.
Wilster had his first big time between 1958 and 1960, when the team became national champions three times in a row - an achievement that no other Bolivian club achieved. 1960 was also the year Jorge Wilstermann became the first Bolivian club to take part in the Copa Libertadores . With 1: 7 and 1: 1, the team was eliminated against the eventual winner Peñarol Montevideo . The club won its fourth championship in 1967.
The second golden era lasted from 1972 to 1973, when Wilster won titles five and six. The club secured two further championships in 1980 and 1981, to which the Brazilian world champion Jairzinho also contributed. Also in 1981, the team succeeded in becoming the first Bolivian representative to qualify for the second round of the Copa Libertadores.
In 2000, Jorge Wilstermann won the overall championship after the Apertura , in 2006 the team won the Clausura and in 2010 the Apertura championship again.
