Oriente Petrolero is a football club from the Bolivian city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra . It was founded on November 5, 1955 by workers in an oil company. He plays his home games at the Estadio Ramón Tahuichi Aguilera (38,000 seats). The players are popularly called albiverdes ("white-green"), which results from the club colors.
successes
The club won the national championship of Bolivia in 1971, 1979, 1990 and 2001. There are also nine runners-up championships and a national cup victory in 1971. In 1972 and 1976 the team was also in the cup final, but lost the respective game.
Copa Libertadores
Oriente Petrolero celebrated its greatest international success in the 1988 season, when they defeated the teams of Cerro Porteño , Olimpia Asunción (both from Paraguay ) and Club Bolívar in the preliminary round group 4 of the Copa Libertadores , defeating Colo Colo ( Chile ) in the round of 16 and only failed in the quarterfinals to América de Cali from Colombia . Overall, the club took part in this most important club competition in South America 15 times .
