Karl-Heinz Wellmann (born August 12, 1954 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German science journalist . From April 1988 to April 2017 he was a science editor at Hessischer Rundfunk .

Life

After attending primary school (Robert Schumann School, 1961-1965) and Geschwister-Scholl-Realschule (1965-1970) in Frankfurt-Heddernheim and graduating from the Frankfurt drawing school (1973) - in the same class with Matthias Horx and Rudolf Kriszeleit - Wellmann initially studied German and political science at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt, but soon interrupted his studies and did his community service in the day care center of the Arbeiterwohlfahrt in a so-called social hotspot . From 1975 onwards, Wellmann studied biology in Frankfurt and German studies with Christa Bürger and Horst Dieter Schlosser . From 1974 to 1980 he was - at times together with Harald Dörig - a member of the student parliament for the Liberal University Association , in the Biology Student Council (together with Engelbert Schramm ) and in other self-governing bodies at Frankfurt University. He was also part of the Frankfurt local executive committee of the Young Democrats . From 1984 to 1990 Wellmann was chairman of the Frankfurt branch of the Humanist Union . In 1990 he received his doctorate from the Friedrich Naumann Foundation in Wolfgang Wiltschko's group on house mice .

In 1978 Karl-Heinz Wellmann began his journalistic activity, initially part-time for the local newspaper Frankfurter Nachrichten , from 1980 also for the nature and science editorial team of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and from 1982 for the science section of the hr television .

Wellmann completed a traineeship at hr television in 1985/86 . From April 1988 to the end of 2013 he worked as a science editor in the radio program hr2-kultur and moderated until it was discontinued in 2003 a. a. the science magazines of hr2-kultur; from the beginning of 2014 to the end of April 2017 he worked as a science editor for the radio program hr-info . From 1989 to 1991 and then again from 1998 he was also editor of the Funkkolleg , from 1999 to 2012 he was also a trainer for the digital audio editing and archiving systems used by the hr radio from 1999 .

In 1998 Karl-Heinz Wellmann began to publish books accompanying the Funkkolleg as well as books with a selection of 111 questions each that listeners of the Hessischer Rundfunk had asked in a series of programs he had developed, of which around 700 to 800 were partly by him, partly by a group of specialist authors in the hr1 program . Since 2014 he has been a lay judge in the youth chambers at the Frankfurt am Main regional court .

The father of two Karl-Heinz Wellmann has been married since 1986 and lives in the Rhine-Main area .
