history

The third television program of the Hessischer Rundfunk was founded on October 5, 1964 under the name Hessisches Fernsehprogramm . Its seat is Frankfurt am Main . In the last few decades the name, logo and appearance of the program have been changed several times. Between 1983 and 1997 the program was called Hessen Drei and from 1997 to 2004 it was called Hessen television . Since October 3, 2004, it has had its current name hr-fernsehen .

"Hessen 3" was the only third program to broadcast television advertising from January 1985 to December 1992 . The income should be used to finance the fourth radio program ( hr4 ). Initially, revenues of around 15 million D-Marks were achieved annually, in the end they amounted to around 12 million DM. In the State Broadcasting Treaty of 1987, however, the states agreed that Hesse 3 should no longer broadcast advertising as soon as the funds required for hr4 from radio license fees would be available. In 1988 a passage was then included in the HR Act according to which the HR was only allowed to broadcast advertising in Hesse 3 until the end of 1992.
