Astra 1H served as a television satellite at 19.2 ° East of SES Global (formerly SES-Astra - Société Européenne des Satellites-Astra) based in Betzdorf in Luxembourg , which was set for television reception in Europe. In June 2012 all transponders were transferred to the Astra 1L , 1M and 2C satellites .
It was launched into space in 1999 from the Baikonur spaceport in Kazakhstan .
reception
The satellite could be received in Europe and partially in the Levante region in the Middle East . Until June 22, 2012, it mainly broadcast the digital radio and television programs from ARD, ZDF, ProSiebenSat.1 and the RTL Group. Astra 2C took over its duties on June 22, 2012. Astra 1H is still retained as a back-up. The transmission took place in the Ku band . Astra 1H has now been withdrawn from its last position 19.4 ° East and replaced by Astra 2B .
