reception
The satellite could be received in Europe and the Middle East . The transmission took place in the Ku band . In January 2009, the satellite's channels at 19.2 ° East were broadcast on the new Astra 1M satellite . In February 2009, Astra 1G was moved to the position 23.5 ° East and has since broadcast mostly Dutch digital radio and television programs. Since July 2010, Astra 1G has taken over the distribution of TV and data services on the 5th Astraposition 31.5 ° East. There the satellite had two footprints: the west footprint could be received in Germany without much effort, the east footprint not. Most of the channels were encrypted and many of the free ones used ACM / VCM , which made them only receivable with professional receivers.
