Horst Dieter Schlosser

Horst Dieter Schlosser (born May 2, 1937 in Düsseldorf ) is a German Germanic medievalist and linguist .

Life

Schlosser studied German , history , philosophy and education at the universities of Hamburg , Münster and Freiburg i.Br. From 1965 to 1972 he was a research assistant and academic adviser in Hamburg and Frankfurt a. M. He was then from 1972 to 2002 Professor of German Philology at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . From 1976 to 1978 and from 1988 to 1999 he held the office of Vice President of the Goethe University.

Schlosser examined in particular the change in the spoken and written word, including the use of language in the GDR . He also published on Old High and Low German texts as well as on the history of literature. Since 1991 he has been the initiator and spokesman for the language-critical campaign “ Unwort des Jahres ”. Since 1983 he has been chairman of the Frankfurt a. M. of the Society for German Language , since 1991 corresponding member of the Collegium Europaeum Jenense of the University of Jena .
