L. Bradford Prince

LeBaron Bradford Prince (born July 3, 1840 in Flushing , New York City , † December 22, 1922 in Queens , New York City) was an American politician and Governor of the New Mexico Territory from 1889 to 1893 .

Ascent

Little is known of Prince's youth. But he must have studied law. Later he was a member of the Republican Party . In 1868 and 1876 he was a delegate to the Republican National Conventions , at which Ulysses S. Grant and Rutherford B. Hayes were nominated as their presidential candidates. In the meantime, Prince worked as a lawyer.

Political career

Between 1871 and 1875 Prince was a member of the New York House of Representatives . From 1876 to 1877 he was also in the Senate of this state. In 1878 he was appointed as a judge to the New Mexico Territory Supreme Court. He held this office until 1882. In 1884 he was an unsuccessful candidate for a seat in the US House of Representatives for New Mexico.

In 1889 he was named the new Territorial Governor of New Mexico by President Benjamin Harrison . He held this office until 1893. In 1909, Prince became a member of the Territorial Council and in 1911 he was a member of the New Mexico Constituent Assembly. Prince was also a member of some associations such as the Society of Colonial Wars or the Sons of the Revolution ; he was also a member of a Masonic lodge. Bradford Prince had been married to Mary Catherine Beardsley since 1881. He died in December 1922.
