Tom Bolack

Thomas Felix "Tom" Bolack (born May 18, 1918 in Cowley County , Kansas , † May 20, 1998 in Farmington , New Mexico ) was an American politician and governor of the state of New Mexico from 1962 to 1963 .

Early years

Tom Bolack attended some public schools; Most of the school knowledge he has acquired himself through correspondence courses. He soon became a successful businessman in the oil and gas industry. In Albuquerque he had his own baseball team, the Albuquerque Dukes, and a natural history museum.

Political career

Bolack was a member of the Republican Party . Between 1952 and 1954 he served as Mayor of Farmington. From 1956 to 1958 he was a member of the New Mexico House of Representatives . In 1957 he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the US House of Representatives . In November 1960 he was elected the new lieutenant governor of his state. After the resignation of Governor Edwin L. Mechem on November 30, 1962, Bolack had to end his term of office, which ran until January 1, 1963. During this time he named his predecessor Mechem a US Senator . On January 1, 1963 he handed over the office of governor to Jack M. Campbell , who was newly elected in November 1962 .

Another résumé

After the end of his governorship, Bolack largely withdrew from politics. He dedicated himself to his business activities. In 1976, however, he was a member of a commission to improve the electoral laws of New Mexico. In 1985 he suffered a stroke that left him in a wheelchair. Tom Bolack passed away in May 1998, two days after his 80th birthday. He was married to Alice Schwertfeger, with whom he had three children.
