Diane Daniels Denish (born March 3, 1949 in Hobbs , New Mexico ) is an American politician . Between 2003 and 2010, she served as lieutenant governor in the state of New Mexico .

Career

Diane Denish was born in Lea County about four years after the end of World War II . In 1971 she did her Bachelor of Arts at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque . She is a lawyer. She has three children with her husband Herb Daniels: Spencer, Sara and Suzanne. Politically, she belongs to the Democratic Party . She took part in the Democratic National Conventions as a delegate in 2000, 2004 and 2008 . In the 2000 presidential election she was on the electoral college . In 2002 she was elected lieutenant governor of New Mexico - a position she held from 2003 to 2010. During that time she chaired the Children's Cabinet , the Individual Development Account Advisory Council , the Military Base Planning Commission and the Mortgage Finance Authority . She also served on the New Mexico Democratic National Committee in 2008 . In 2010 she ran for governor of New Mexico to succeed Bill Richardson , but was defeated by Republican Susana Martinez .

She is the owner of The Target Group . She currently lives in Albuquerque.
