José A. Baca

José A. Baca (* in San Miguel County , New Mexico ; † May 1924 in Las Vegas , New Mexico) was an American politician of Spanish - French descent. Between 1923 and 1924 he served as lieutenant governor in the state of New Mexico .

Career

José A. Baca was born in San Miguel County in the 19th century. He attended schools in his county and later the Sacred Heart College in Denver ( Colorado ). Then he worked as a sheep farmer. He was also a director of the People's National Bank in Las Vegas. He married Marguerite Pendaries Baca. She was Secretary of State of New Mexico between 1930 and 1934. The couple owned a 2,000 acre vacation ranch at Rociada .

Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . He was elected lieutenant governor of New Mexico in 1922 - a post he held from January 1923 until his death in May 1924. Baca had a weak heart. After he caught a cold, it developed into pneumonia , from which he finally died in May 1924. His funeral took place on May 20, 1924 in Mont Calvery Cemetery , Las Vegas.
