Mack Easley

Mack Easley (born October 14, 1916 in Tahlequah , Oklahoma , † March 1, 2006 in Albuquerque , New Mexico ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1963 and 1966 he served as lieutenant governor in the state of New Mexico .

Career

Mack Easley, son of Mary Ellen and John Robert Easley, was born in Cherokee County during World War I. He served in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II . After the war, he studied law at the University of Oklahoma Law School . He then practiced as a lawyer. In 1947 he moved to Hobbs , Lea County with his wife, Loyce Ann Rogers Easley . In addition to his work as a lawyer, he also worked there as an Assistant District Attorney . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

He sat in the New Mexico House of Representatives from 1951 to 1952 and from 1955 to 1962 . During this time he held the post of speaker between 1959 and 1960 . He also chaired the Lea County Democratic Party between 1955 and 1964 . He also took part in 1960 as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles . He was elected lieutenant governor of New Mexico in 1962. In 1964 he was re-elected. He held the post between 1963 and 1966.

Then he returned to Hobbs. He was elected to the New Mexico Senate, where he served only one term. During that time he chaired the Senate Democratic Caucus Committee . He was then appointed district judge and later elected. Governor Jerry Apodaca appointed him a judge on the New Mexico Supreme Court in 1975 . He was elected for a second term, but resigned from his post as Chief Justice in 1982 . At the age of 63, his wife became a famous artist. He died on March 1, 2006 in Albuquerque. His body was then interred in Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe .
