history

Old logo

Barranquilla FC is considered a talent factory for the traditional club from Barranquilla, Junior , which offers sporting and logistical support. Well-known players like Carlos Bacca and Teófilo Gutiérrez , who later played for Junior, attracted attention at Barranquilla FC. There is also overlap with Junior in the administration of the club.

The club qualified for the first time for the group stage in the Torneo Finalización 2008, but without reaching the final.

In Apertura 2017 , Barranquilla was close to reaching the final round with a ninth place. After the Apertura, the acting coach Arturo Reyes left the club since 2013 and switched to Junior . His successor was the previous assistant coach Roberto Peñaloza . The Finalización 2017 was the most successful half series in the history of the club. The league phase was completed in first place. In the subsequent quarter-finals, Barranquilla FC was eliminated against Cúcuta Deportivo. In the 2018 season, Barranquilla failed to make it into the final round in tenth place. In Apertura 2019, Barranquilla FC moved into the final round as fourth in the league phase, but was then bottom of the group and thus missed the finals of the semi-series championship. Coach Peñaloza switched to Junior in June 2019 to become Julio Comesaña's assistant coach . He was succeeded by Everth Salas .

Stadion

Barranquilla FC plays its home games at the Estadio Romelio Martínez in Barranquilla, Junior's old stadium. The stadium has a capacity of around 20,000 seats. From 2015 to 2018, Barranquilla FC played their home games at the larger Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez , while the Estadio Romelio Martínez was being renovated.
