The Categoría Primera B 2016 , also called Torneo Águila after a sponsor , was the twenty-seventh season of Colombia's second division in men's football . The season started on February 13th and ended on December 11th, 2016.

The relegated from the Categoría Primera A 2015 were Cúcuta Deportivo and Uniautónoma FC . However, Uniautónoma FC sold its starting right to Orsomarso SC .

The first to be promoted was América de Cali on November 27 , which secured promotion to Group B in the final round with a 2-1 win against Deportes Quindío on the last day of the match. A day later, Tigres FC was confirmed as the winner of Group A and promoted to the first division. In the final, America prevailed and was thus champion of the second Colombian league for the first time.

mode

The mode remained unchanged compared to the previous year. A tournament was played in which all teams played against each other in home and return matches. In addition, there were two game days with Clásicos , on which games with a derby character were played. The first eight teams qualified for the final round. The final round consisted of a group stage with two groups of four teams each, who determined the two direct promoters in the first and second legs. The two group winners also played out the champions in a final.

Clubs in the Categoría Primera B 2016

The following clubs took part in the 2016 season. Uniautónoma FC sold its entry right to Orsomarso SC and Expreso Rojo changed its name to Tigres FC . At the beginning of the season, Dépor FC struggled with legal disputes regarding the right to start and was only able to participate under the new name Atlético FC from mid-March .
