Itagüí is a municipality ( municipio ) in the Colombian department of Antioquia . It borders directly on Medellín , the capital Antioquia, and belongs to the metropolitan region of Valle de Aburrá . Itagüí is one of the municipalities in Colombia with the highest degree of industrialization.

Itagüí lies at an altitude of about 1550 m above sea level. NN in the sub-region of Valle de Aburrá and has an average annual temperature between 21 and 26 ° C. The city is bordered by Medellín in the north, Envigado and Medellín in the east, La Estrella and Medellín in the west and Envigado, Sabaneta and La Estrella in the south .

history
Itagüí was founded in 1743 when the first church was built. However, the place only experienced greater growth in the 19th century with the establishment of the first private school in 1832, the first public school in 1871 and the construction of a cemetery in 1870.

Sports
The football club Itagüí FC was based in Itagüí until 2014 and was promoted to the Colombian first division in 2010 . The club played its home games at the Estadio Metropolitano Ciudad de Itagüí . The second division Leones FC has been based in Itagüí since 2016 . Itagüí was a venue for various competitions of the South American Games that were held in Medellín in 2010.
