Carepa is a municipality ( municipality ) in the Antioquia department in Colombia .

Carepa is located in the north of Antioquia in the sub-region Urabá , 308 km from Medellín , at an altitude of 28  m above sea level. NN . The municipality borders in the north on Apartadó , in the east on Tierralta in the Departamento de Córdoba , in the west on Chigorodó and Turbo and in the south on Chigorodó.

history

In the area of today Carepa lived before the arrival of the Spaniards, the indigenous people of Katios . Carepa was only founded in 1950 and became a municipality in 1983.

economy

The main industry of Carepa is agriculture , especially the cultivation and export of bananas . In addition, corn , rice , cassava , coconut and cocoa are grown and there is cattle production . The Apartadó Airport, Antonio Roldán Betancourt Airport, is located in the municipality of Carepa .
