Chigorodó is a municipality ( municipio ) in the region of Urabá in the department of Antioquia in Colombia .

geography

Chigorodó is located at an altitude of 34 meters 306 kilometers north of Medellín in the Urabá region near the Caribbean Sea . The annual average temperature is 28 ° C. The municipality borders Carepa in the north, the Department of Cordoba ( Tierralta ) in the east and Mutatá and Turbo in the south and Turbo in the west.

history

Chigorodó was founded in 1878 and received parish status in 1915. The origin of the name is indigenous and means Guadua River.

The main industry in Chigorodó is agriculture. There are bananas , rice , cassava and corn grown. Cattle production , mining and handicrafts also play a role.
