Valdivia is a municipality ( municipio ) in the Department of Antioquia in Colombia .

geography

Valdivia is located in the sub-region Norte in Antioquia 165 km from Medellín at an altitude of about 1165  m above sea level. NN and has an average temperature of 22.5 ° C. Ituango and Briceño border the municipality in the west , Yarumal in the southeast , Anorí in the east and Tarazá in the north and northeast .

The municipality of Valdivia has 24,538 inhabitants, of which 7270 live in the urban part (cabecera municipal) of the municipality (as of 2019).

history

Valdivia was founded in 1879 by settlers under the name Conguital and shortly afterwards became corregimiento of Yarumal . As Valdivia, the place received the status of a municipality in 1912. It was named in honor of the Spanish conquistador Andrés de Valdivia .
