Segovia is a municipality ( municipio ) in the Department of Antioquia in Colombia , in particular, for its gold deposits are known.

geography

Segovia is located in Antioquia , in the sub-region Nordeste Antioqueño , at an altitude of 650 m above sea level. NN , 227 km from Medellin . The municipality borders in the north on Zaragoza and El Bagre , in the east on San Pablo and Santa Rosa del Sur in the Departamento de Bolívar , in the west on Amalfi and Anorí and in the south on Remedios .

history

Segovia was founded in 1869 and received parish status in 1884. Segovia was badly affected by the armed conflict . In October 1998, the so-called Segovia massacre occurred in the community with many dead. The security situation has improved lately.

The main industry in Segovia is gold mining . To a lesser extent, there is also trade , cattle production , timber and agriculture .
