Taraza is a municipality ( municipio ) in the Department of Antioquia in Colombia .

geography

Tarazá is located in Antioquia , in the Bajo Cauca sub-region , at an altitude of 125  m above sea level. NN , 222 km from Medellín . The municipality borders in the north on Cáceres as well as Montelíbano and San José de Uré in the Departamento de Córdoba , in the east on Cáceres, in the south on Valdivia , Ituango and Anorí and in the west on Puerto Libertador in Córdoba.

The municipality of Tarazá has 47,625 inhabitants, of which 31,075 live in the urban part (cabecera municipal) of the municipality (as of 2019).

history

Tarazá arose from 1953 on the river of the same name and initially belonged to Cáceres. Tarazá has had the status of a municipality since 1979.

economy

The main industries in Tarazá are agriculture ( bananas , cocoa , natural rubber , cassava and rice ), cattle production , pond farming , gold mining and trade .
