Copacabana is a municipality ( municipio ) in the Department of Antioquia in Colombia and belongs to the de metropolitan Valle Aburrá , the metropolitan area of Medellín .

geography

Copacabana is located north of Medellín in the Valle de Aburrá in Antioquia and has an average temperature of 22.5 ° C. The municipality borders San Pedro de los Milagro in the north, Girardota in the west, Bello in the west and Medellín and Guarne in the south .

history

The indigenous people of the Niquía lived in the area of ​​today's Copacabana . The first Spaniards reached the Aburrá Valley in 1541. The place was initially a site of mines under the name La Tasajera . Since 1659 the place was a parish with the name Beneficio . According to an image imported from Copacabana , Bolivia , the place was finally renamed Nuestra Señora de Copacabana de la Tasajera in 1702 , of which only Copacabana remained.
