Guadua is the most biodiverse and most important bamboo genus in Central and South America.

Guadua species form clumps and not runners . They are the largest bamboos found in America.

distribution

The genus comes from the tropics of Latin America ( Neotropic ), from Brazil to southern Mexico. Its main distribution area is low altitudes below 1500 m around the Amazon and the Orinoco . However, some species are found up to heights of 2500 m. The most widespread is Guadua angustifolia , a type of bamboo that is also used economically, particularly in Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela.

Guadua straws are used as building material for houses, furniture and bridges , especially in Colombia and Ecuador .
