Juan Camilo Zúñiga Mosquera (born December 14, 1985 in Chigorodó , Departamento de Antioquia ) is a former Colombian football player .

Career

In the club

Zúñiga began his career at Atlético Nacional . There he was part of the professional squad from 2005 and was Colombian champion in 2005 and 2007. With Atlético Nacional he took part in the Copa Libertadores 2008 . For the 2008/09 season he moved to AC Siena . After a season in Siena, in which Zúñiga played 28 games in Serie A , he transferred to the traditional Italian club SSC Napoli in summer 2009 . He signed a five-year contract with the southern Italians. In January 2016 he was awarded to the league competitor FC Bologna . In the summer of 2016, the English first division club Watford FC loaned him . In early 2018, Zúñiga returned to Colombia for half a year, but only made four season appearances at Atlético Nacional. In July 2018, Zúñiga announced his immediate retirement.

National team

Zúñiga took part with the Colombian U-20 national team in the Junior World Cup in 2005 , where he reached the round of 16. Since 2005 he has been a member of the Colombian national soccer team . He was part of Colombia's squad at the 2007 Copa America , where he played in the last group game against the USA .

At the Football World Cup 2014 , Zúñiga was a regular on the right outside and reached the quarter-finals against Brazil after a preliminary round without losing points with his team , but Colombia lost 2-1. In this game, Zúñiga committed a foul on the Brazilian striker Neymar , whereupon he suffered a fractured vertebra and was out for the rest of the World Cup. As a result, Zúñiga received abuse on social networks and death threats. He himself apologized and stated that it was a normal duel with no intention of injury.
