Rionegro Águilas is a Colombian football club founded in 2008 , which has been based in Rionegro , Antioquia since March 2015 , under the name Águilas Doradas until the end of 2015 . From May 2014 to March 2015 the club played under the name Águilas Pereira in Pereira , Risaralda . Until May 2014, the club was based in Itagüí , Antioquia, and was known under the names Itagüí FC and Itagüí Ditaires , although the official name was Corporación Deportiva Ciudad de Itagüí .
history
The association was created in 2008 by taking over the right to start from the Bajo Cauca Fútbol Club from Caucasia and adopting the name Corporación Deportiva Ciudad de Itagüí . The club became known under the name Itagüí Ditaires , since 2013 Itagüí FC .
Until 2010, the club played in the Colombian second division . In the 2010 season Itagüí was champion of the second division and rose to the first division . In the same year, the club also reached the final of the Copa Colombia as the first second division team , but lost it to Deportivo Cali . Itagüí's best season in the first division so far was the 2012 season , at the end of which was the qualification for the Copa Sudamericana 2013 , in which the club reached the quarter-finals.
In May 2014 it became known that the Itagüí city government had decided not to let the club play in Itagüí. This was preceded by a conflict over the financing of the association. The club moved to Pereira and was therefore first renamed Águilas Doradas de Risaralda and then Águilas Pereira. At the beginning of the Hinserie 2015 , those responsible for the club announced that he was leaving Pereira. In March 2015, Rionegro was announced as the new headquarters.
In the midst of the various changes of location, the club was able to survive the league phase twice in the 2014 season and qualify for the Copa Sudamericana for the third time in a row . In the 2015 Hinserie, however, Águilas Doradas only missed the finals for the second time since promotion. Also in the Copa Sudamericana, the club was eliminated in the 2nd round against Club Olimpia from Paraguay. In the back series, the club presented itself even weaker and ended up in 14th place, far away to be able to intervene in the final round.
In November 2015 it was first announced that Águilas Doradas could no longer stay in Rionegro and was therefore looking for a new location. Eventually, however, the whereabouts in Rionegro could be secured, but under the new name Rionegro Águilas and with a new jersey color (red instead of gold).
In the 2016 season , Rionegro Águilas reached the quarter-finals in the Hinserie. In the return series, the club missed the entry into the final round. In the end, the club narrowly qualified for the Copa Sudamericana 2017 . There Rionegro Águilas was eliminated in the first round against the Argentinian club Racing Club . Also in the league, the club missed the finals with a 14th place in the league phase of Apertura 2017 . Rionegro Águilas even ended the back series in last place. Even a change of coach in August 2017 from Óscar Hernando Pérez , who was only signed in May, to Diego Edison Umaña could not prevent the worst season since promotion. Rionegro Águilas also came last in the overall table.
The new coach for Apertura 2018 was Hernán Torres Oliveros , who led the club to 13th place, but missed making it to the final round. After his resignation at the end of May 2018, Jorge Luis Bernal was introduced as his successor . In the Finalización 2018 Rionegro Águilas reached the semifinals.
After a weak start to the 2019 season , Bernal was replaced by Ever Hugo Almeida , who, however, resigned after a month. Eduardo Cruz followed him . In the Copa Sudamericana 2019 , Rionegro was eliminated in the second round. The league's Apertura finished the club in penultimate place.

Rionegro Águilas has been playing its home games at the Estadio Alberto Grisales in Rionegro since March 2015 , which has a capacity of around 14,000 seats.
As Águilas Pereira, the club played its home games from May 2014 to February 2015 at the Estadio Hernán Ramírez Villegas in Pereira, which has a capacity of 30,297 seats.
