Alianza Petrolera is a Colombian football club from Barrancabermeja that was founded in 1991 and currently plays in the Primera A category.

The greatest success in the club's history is the 2012 second division championship and the associated promotion to the first division. Until promotion, the club played in the second division since 1992.

history

Up until promotion in 2012, Alianza Petrolera was one of the most traditional teams in the Colombian second division. The club was repeatedly close to promotion, but failed each time.

Since the club's financial situation was difficult, in 2011 he signed an agreement with the traditional club Atlético Nacional . The agreement stipulates that the Medellín Alianza Petrolera club will loan out young players to enable match practice. In addition, Atlético Nacional pays the salaries of the coaching staff. The agreement was interpreted by various sides as a violation of the statutes of DIMAYOR in the event of promotion . However, those responsible for the two clubs affirmed that the clubs would remain independent of each other and that all rules were formally observed.

In June 2012 rumors surfaced that Alianza Petrolera would move to Guarne , the location of the administrative headquarters of Atlético Nacional, and change its name to Alianza Oriente because of the renovation of its own stadium . The club played its home games there in the back series in 2012, but the name was not changed.

Alianza Petrolera made the promotion in the 2012 season, just a year after the start of the agreement with Atlético Nacional. The club won the Torneo Finalización in the final against Deportivo Rionegro and was also able to prevail in the championship final against América de Cali .

During the 2013 Hinserie the club then played in Yopal and the return series in Floridablanca . Since the stadium in Floridablanca was only adapted to the requirements of the first division, it was speculated that the club would settle permanently in Floridablanca and rename itself to Alianza Fútbol Club . Thereupon, however, those responsible confirmed that Alianza Petrolera would remain based in Barrancabermeja and only wait for the stadium to be completed in order to return there.

In the first year in the first division, the club played against relegation, but was able to avoid this two game days before the end. In the Copa Colombia , Alianza Petrolera made it to the semi-finals, but was eliminated from the eventual winner Atlético Nacional . In the Hinserie 2014 , the club just missed making it into the final round. It was just as close in the back series of 2014 ; each time the Alianza Petrolera missed the place among the top eight teams only because of a poorer goal difference.

In April 2015, Alianza Petrolera finally returned to Barrancabermeja. There, in the back series of 2015 , due to the special strength of the home team, they made it into the final round for the first time, in which Alianza Petrolera was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Independiente Medellín .

The Hinserie 2016 was Alianza's weakest half-series since promotion. The club finished the league phase on the penultimate place. Due to the poor performance, the contract of the coach Óscar Upegui was dissolved in May and set as successor Jorge Luis Bernal . In the back series Alianza played more consistently, but in the end just missed making it into the final round. It was similarly close in the Hinserie 2017 , in which Alianza again reached tenth place and only missed making it into the final round by two points. In the Finalización 2017, however, Alianza Petrolera had nothing to do with moving into the final round and finished the league phase in 18th place. Because of the team's poor performance, coach Jorge Luis Bernal was replaced by Argentinian Juan Cruz Real in October .

The Apertura 2018 completed Alianza Petrolera at the 15th and the Finalización 2018 in 16th place from. Cruz Real had already been sacked in October, after which César Torres Ramírez was signed as the new head coach. In the Apertura 2019 , Alianza Petrolera took 14th place.

Stadion

Alianza Petrolera plays his home games at the Estadio Daniel Villa Zapata . The stadium has a capacity of around 10,400 seats. During a long period of renovation after promotion to the first division, the club temporarily played most of its home games at the Estadio Álvaro Gómez Hurtado in Floridablanca , which has a capacity of around 12,000 seats.
