Alexis Antonio Mendoza Barrina (born November 8, 1961 in Barranquilla ) is a former Colombian football player . He was a defender and played 67 games between 1987 and 1997 and scored 2 goals for the Colombian national soccer team .

Player career

Mendoza played for Atlético Junior for most of his career . He also played for América de Cali from 1990 to 1992, and won two Colombian football championships (1990 and 1992). In 1993 Mendoza went back to Atlético Junior and won the Colombian Football Championship in 1993 and 1995. In 1996 Alexis Mendoza switched to CD Veracruz , where he ended his career at the age of 36.

National team

Alexis Mendoza played a game at the 1994 World Cup and was nominated for the 1990 World Cup . He played four times at the Copa America in 1987 , 1989 , 1993 and 1995 .

Coaching career

In June 2010 he briefly coached the Honduran national team . From January 2015 to July 2016 he worked in this role at Atlético Junior and won the Copa Colombia with his team in 2015 . From July 2016 he coached the team of the Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle . until December 2017. From then until April 2018 he tried again at the junior in Barranquilla with moderate success.
