Categoría Primera A 2015

The Categoría Primera A 2016 , named after a sponsor Liga Águila , was a season of the highest Colombian league in men's football consisting of Apertura and Finalización . The Apertura is the eighty-third and the Finalización the eighty-fourth of the Colombian Championship. The aperture began on January 29, 2016 and ended on June 19, 2016. The finalización began on July 1, 2016 and ended on December 18, 2016.

The newcomers are Atlético Bucaramanga and Fortaleza FC .

Apertura champion was Independiente Medellín after beating Junior in the final . In the Finalización Independiente Santa Fe was able to prevail in the final against Deportes Tolima .

Fortaleza FC was the first to be relegated four games before the end. Two game days later, Boyacá Chicó FC was also relegated.

mode

The mode remained unchanged compared to the previous year. Two champions were determined, one for each half series. Every semi-series champion was automatically qualified for the Copa Libertadores . Two more places were awarded to the clubs that were highest after adding up all the points and goals in phases 1 and 2 of the first and second semi-series championships. If a club had won both semi-series championships, the second participant in the Libertadores would have been selected using the same procedure. Three participants in the Copa Sudamericana were determined according to the same scheme as the third Libertadores participant: the three clubs that were behind this in the overall annual ranking are qualified. A fourth club is determined by the cup competition . A new rule was that neither club could qualify for both competitions. Two direct relegated to the Categoría Primera B were determined by a separate relegation table, which was determined from the average of the past three seasons.

In both phases, all 20 teams played against each other in league mode, in addition there was a game day with Clásicos , on which games with a derby character were played. The first eight teams qualified for the quarter-finals, followed by the semi-finals and finals. At the draw for the quarter-finals, the teams in places one to four were in the first lottery pot and were drawn to a team in places five to eight. They also had home rights in the second leg.

Attendees

The following clubs took part in the two half-series of the 2016 season, Apertura and Finalización . Águilas Doradas changed its name to Rionegro Águilas.

2 Due to an accident during renovation work on his own stadium, Huila had to move to Ibagué and Armenia from September.
2 Nacional played a home game in Itagüí because the stadium in Medellín could not be used for a concert due to construction work.
4thDeportivo Cali is based in Cali, but the Estadio Deportivo Cali is located in the neighboring city of Palmira. Deportivo Cali played a game at the Estadio Pascual Guerrero.
5 Fortaleza played a home game at the larger Estadio El Campín.
6th Santa Fe and Millonarios played individual games in the Estadio Metropolitano de Techo due to renovations.
