Jokes about the pastusos
Like many countries, Colombia has a specific group of people who a lot of the jokes are about. These are the Pastusos (people from Pasto). The background to this is that Pasto has often made different decisions from the majority in the history of the country. When the wars of independence raged, Pasto was of the opinion that they should not part with the Spanish crown. The jokes about the allegedly backward type of pastuso probably have their roots in the fact that it caused civil unrest in the city, which meant that the connection with the rest of the country took place very late.
Colombia's Pastusos can therefore be compared with population groups such as the Welsh in England , the East Frisians or Bavaria in Germany or the Chukchi in Russia. The basic structure of these jokes is often similar in the individual countries. The punch line is often the same, only the actor (s) change.
