Carnival of blacks and whites
The Carnival of Blacks and Whites ( German Carnaval de Negros y Blancos ) is, after the Carnival of Barranquilla , the second largest carnival in Colombia and also an important one in Latin America . The event takes place every year on January 5th (“Black Day”) and 6th January (“White Day”) in Pasto ( Departamento de Nariño ).
In the run-up to the festival there will be other carnival parades: on December 28th, the Día de los Santos Inocentes (day of child murder in Bethlehem ); on December 31, the Desfile del año viejo ; on January 3rd the carnavalito (children's carnival); and on January 4th the move of the Castañeda family .
The Carnaval de Negros y Blancos was registered by UNESCO in 2008 on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity .
