The Departamento del Vaupés is a department in southeast Colombia . It borders Brazil to the east, the Amazon department to the south , Caquetá to the west and Guaviare and Guainía to the north .
Agriculture and cattle farming are the economic pillars of the region. There are corn , yuca , plantains , rice , cocoa and sweet potatoes grown on poor quality soils. Hunting , fishing , mining and logging also play an important role.
The Jirijirimo rapids of the Río Apaporis are worth seeing .
Administrative division
The Departamento del Vaupés consists of three municipalities (CM) and three offices (CD). The offices are characterized by the lack of urban structures. The population figures are based on the DANE 2005 census and extrapolated for 2018.
