Cumbal is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Nariño in Colombia .

Cumbal is located in the Obando province in the Departamento de Nariño at an altitude of 3050 m above sea level. NN , 120 km from Pasto in the western cordillera of the Colombian Andes and has an average temperature of 10 ° C. The municipality is characterized by the valleys of the Río Blanco , Río Carchi , Río Cainacan - San Juan , Río Blanco - Vegas and Río Miraflores . In addition, the Laguna de Cumbal and the volcanoes Cumbal and Chile are located in the area of the municipality . The municipality borders in the north on Guachucal , Mallama and Ricaurte , in the east on Cuaspud and Guachucal, in the south on the province of Carchi in Ecuador and in the west on Ricaurte and the province of Carchi in Ecuador.

history

Cumbal was originally in 1529 by the indigenous cacique founded Cumbe. Until 1711 the place consisted of only nine huts with thatched roofs. Cumbal has had parish status since 1911. Cumbal was destroyed by an earthquake in 1923 and then rebuilt, which is why the history of the place distinguishes between the old and the new Cumbal. The founding date for the new Cumbal is given as 1925.
