Roberto Payán is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Nariño in Colombia . The main town (cabecera municipal) of Roberto Payán is San José de las Lagunas .

geography

Roberto Payán is located in the Tumaco-Barbacoas province in the west of Nariño at an altitude of 20  m above sea level. NN , 250 km from Pasto on the Río Patía and has an average temperature of 27 ° C. The municipality borders in the north on Francisco Pizarro , Mosquera and Olaya Herrera , in the east on Olaya Herrera and Magüí Payán , in the south on Barbacoas and Tumaco and in the west on Tumaco.

history

San José de las Lagunas was founded in 1730 by Ignacio Gómez. Since 1733 the place has the status of a municipality.

economy

Roberto Payán's main industries are agriculture (especially bananas , sugar cane , cocoa , coconuts and citrus fruits ) and timber . Gold mining has traditionally also played a major role.

Infrastructure

There are no reasonable road connections to Roberto Payán. The community can be reached by ship and helicopter.
