The Categoría Primera A 1950 was the third edition of the Colombian football championship . The championship was surprisingly won by Deportes Caldas in front of the top Millonarios team . The top scorer was the Paraguayan Casimiro Ávalos from Deportivo Pereira with 27 goals.
The number of participants increased from 14 to 16 teams. For the first time Cúcuta Deportivo and Sporting de Barranquilla took part. In addition, Junior returned and replaced Deportivo Barranquilla again .
