The Categoría Primera A 1966 was the nineteenth edition of the Colombian football championship . The championship was won by Santa Fe for the fourth time in front of Independiente Medellín . The top scorer was the Argentine Omar Lorenzo Devanni from Santa Fe with 31 goals.

The same 13 teams took part as last year, and Atlético Junior returned after 13 years of absence.

All teams played against each other four times.

After solving the problem of the division of associations in Colombian football, Colombian teams were again allowed to participate in international competitions. After a rule change, the runner-up took part in the Copa Libertadores in 1967 .
