Corporación de Deportes Quindío , or Deportes Quindío for short , is a Colombian football club from Armenia in the Departamento del Quindío, founded in 1951 .
history
The highlight of the club's history was winning the Colombian Championship in 1956. Deportes Quindio took part in the Copa Conmebol in two seasons . While there came out in the first round in 1999, the club reached the quarter-finals of the competition in 1998. In 2000, Deportes Quindío was relegated to the second division , but was able to rise again in 2001.
In 2004, the 101-time national player Leonel Álvarez ended his career with Deportes Quindío.
In 2013 , the club was relegated from the first division for the second time and played in the Categoría Primera B from the 2014 season . In the sixth series, the club reached the quarter-finals, but was eliminated there against América de Cali . The return series was able to win Quindío, but lost the final for promotion against Jaguares de Córdoba and could not prevail in the relegation against Uniautónoma FC . Even in the special promotion round for traditional clubs of the second division in January 2015, the club could not be promoted. In the 2015 season , the club missed the finals by just two points and ended the season in ninth place.
In the 2016 season , Deportes Quindío narrowly missed promotion by losing in the last game of the final round against América de Cali .
For the season 2017 was José Alberto Suárez presented as the new coach. Under him, Deportes Quindío was second in the league phase and reached the semi-finals of the final round. In the back series Quindío was third in the league phase, but then lost very clearly in the quarter-finals (0: 5 and 1: 3) against Llaneros FC .
In the 2018 season, Quindío qualified sixth for the final round and only had to admit defeat to Unión Magdalena . In Apertura 2019 , the club reached the final round in second place, but only came third in the group stage.
Stadion
Deportes Quindío plays its home games at the Estadio Centenario de Armenia . The stadium was inaugurated in 1988 and has a capacity of 29,000 seats. It was also one of the venues for the 2001 Copa America .
