Alexander Mejía Sabalsa (short Alexander Mejía ; born July 11, 1988 in Barranquilla ) is a Colombian football player on the position of midfielder . He currently plays for the Paraguayan club Club Libertad .
Club career
Alexander Mejía began his career in 2005 with the Colombian club Deportes Quindío from Armenia . After being on loan from Once Caldas from Manizales for a season in 2011 , he was signed by Atlético Nacional from Medellín in 2012 . With Atlético Nacional he was able to win the Superliga de Colombia and the Cup of Colombia in his first year . In his second season two Colombian championship titles followed and again the cup victory. His club won the championship for the third time in a row in the 2014 Hinserie. Mejía was the captain of the team.
Since January 2015 Mejía has played in the first Mexican division , at CF Monterrey . After he was hardly used there, he moved back to Atlético Nacional after half a year. There he was able to win the Colombian championship again. The Superliga de Colombia followed in January 2016. In July 2016 he won the Copa Libertadores with Nacional. Following this title, he moved again to Mexico, this time to Club León .
In January 2019, Mejía moved to the Paraguayan first division club Libertad .
National team career
Alexander Mejía played his first international match for the Colombian national soccer team during qualifying for the 2014 World Cup . He was the only outfield player playing in the Colombian league who was appointed to the squad for the World Cup by José Pekerman .
