Valledupar FC is a Colombian football club from Valledupar , Cesar, founded in 2003 .

history

The club has played in the Primera B category since 2004 and was always able to qualify for the group stage until 2008. 2006 Valledupar FC was runner-up, but lost the relegation match against the penultimate of the Categoría Primera A , Atlético Huila . In 2008 , the club finished second in the Torneo Finalización and missed the championship final as it lost the second round final to Real Cartagena . Since 2009, the club only got over the league phase twice, but without being able to reach a final. In 2011 and 2014, Valledupar FC reached the quarter-finals of the Copa Colombia , but were eliminated from the first division junior . In the 2014 season , the club narrowly missed the finals in both half-series of the second division and was therefore unable to play for promotion. In 2015 and 2016 , Valledupar narrowly missed making it into the final round and ended the season in tenth and ninth place respectively.

The coach David Pinillos was fired after a mixed start to the 2017 season . His previous assistant Wilberto Pana was promoted to head coach for him . The club finished the Apertura 2017 in twelfth place and thus missed out on the finals. The Finalización 2017 also ended in 12th place. Subsequently, the departure from Wilberto Pana was announced. As the new coach for the following season Nilton Bernal was committed. In addition, an agreement was announced with the first division club Millonarios FC .

In the 2018 season , Valledupar was able to move into the final round in seventh place. There, however, the club was bottom of the group with zero points and clearly missed the entry into the final. In Apertura 2019, Valledupar failed to make it into the final round in twelfth place.

Stadion

Valledupar FC plays its home games at the Estadio Armando Maestre Pavajeau in Valledupar. The stadium has a capacity of around 10,000 seats. From 2014 to 2015, the stadium in Valledupar was rebuilt, which is why the club first moved to Riohacha , to the Estadio Federico Serrano Soto and from the beginning of 2015 then to the Erasmo Calamar baseball stadium in Valledupar.
