Categoría Primera A 2018

The Categoría Primera A 2019 , named Liga Águila after a sponsor , was a season of the top Colombian men's soccer division consisting of Apertura and Finalización , which was organized by the División Mayor del Fútbol Profesional Colombiano (DIMAYOR). The Apertura was the 89th and the Finalización the 90th edition of the Colombian Championship.

The climbers were Cúcuta Deportivo from Cúcuta and Unión Magdalena from Santa Marta .

The Apertura champion was Junior , who prevailed on penalties against Deportivo Pasto and won his ninth championship title. Master of the Finalización was America de Cali , which was able to prevail against the first round champion Junior.

Atlético Huila and the promoted Unión Magdalena were relegated from the first division .

mode

The mode experienced small changes compared to the previous year. Two champions were determined, one for each half series. In both phases, all 20 teams played against each other in league mode. There was also an additional game day with so-called clásicos (games with a derby character). The first eight teams qualified for the final round, which consisted of two groups of four teams each. The two group winners qualified for the final and played out the champions.

Every semi-series champion was automatically qualified for the Copa Libertadores . Another place was awarded to the club which, after adding up all the points and goals from phases 1 and 2 of the first and second semi-series championships, was the highest. If a club had won both semi-series championships, the second participant in the Libertadores would have been selected using the same procedure. A fourth starting place was given to the winner of the Copa Colombia . If the cup winner had already qualified through the league, the starting place would have gone to the next best club in the overall table. The four participants in the Copa Sudamericana were determined according to the same scheme as the third Libertadores participant: the clubs that were behind this in the overall annual ranking were qualified. Two direct relegated to the Categoría Primera B were determined by a separate relegation table, which was determined from the average of the past three seasons.

1 At the beginning of the season, Tolima moved to Bogotá due to renovation work on their own stadium.
2 Deportivo Cali is based in Cali, but the Estadio Deportivo Cali is in the neighboring municipality of Palmira.
3Due to renovation work on the stadium in Pasto, Deportivo Pasto moved to Ipiales in the 2019 season. Pasto had to play the final home game of Apertura in Bogotá.
4th La Equidad wore the home game against Atlético Nacional because of the higher capacity in the larger El Campín stadium.
