The Categoría Primera A 1955 was the eighth edition of the Colombian football championship . The championship could win Independiente Medellín for the first time before Atlético Nacional . The top scorer was the Argentinean Felipe Marino from Independiente Medellín with 22 goals.

As in the previous year, ten teams took part in the championship. Atlético Manizales disappeared, but Deportes Tolima from Ibagué played his first season. Unión Magdalena was excluded from participation because the club had withdrawn from the previous season prematurely. Cúcuta Deportivo returned.

All teams played against each other three times. The additional home right was granted to the economically weaker teams.
