Categoría Primera A 1952

The Categoría Primera A 1953 was the sixth edition of the Colombian football championship . Millonarios was able to defend the championship before Deportes Quindío and won the title for the third time in a row and for the fourth time overall. The top scorer was the Argentine Mario Garelli from Deportes Quindío with 20 goals.

The number of participants fell from 15 to 12 teams. Deportivo Manizales , Universidad and América de Cali no longer participated. América de Cali returned in 1954, Universidad completely disappeared, Deportivo Manizales later reappeared as Once Caldas. In addition, Deportivo Samarios disappeared and was replaced by Unión Magdalena . Atlético Bucaramanga only played 12 games. The remaining games were rated 1-0 for the opponent.

1953 ended the golden age of the Colombian football league.
