Patriotas Boyacá , also known by its former name Patriotas FC , is a Colombian football club from Tunja founded in 2003 .

history

Patriotas played in the Colombian second division for the first few years of its existence . In 2011 he was runner-up in the second division and achieved promotion to the first division via relegation against the penultimate in the first division, América de Cali . So far, the club has played successfully against relegation there. In the back series of 2014 Patriotas fought to reach the final round until the last match day, but missed it by one point in the end. In addition, the club was able to advance in the cup competition to the semi-finals, in which he failed but at Deportes Tolima.

In the 2015 season, Patriotas barely missed the finals in both half-series. Especially in the back series, only the poor goal difference against Santa Fe was decisive. In the series of the 2016 season, Patriotas narrowly missed the finals in ninth place. In the return series, the club had more success and reached the quarter-finals, where the club was only eliminated on penalties against Deportes Tolima . In the end, Patriotas qualified for the Copa Sudamericana 2017 and thus for the first time for an international competition. After coach Harold Rivera left for Atlético Bucaramanga , Diego Andrés Corredor was signed as the new coach for the 2017 season .

In their first participation in the Copa Sudamericana 2017, Patriotas was able to prevail in the first round on penalties against the Chilean club CD Everton de Viña del Mar , but then failed in the second round at the Brazilian club Corinthians São Paulo .

In the league in the 2017 season, Patriotas missed the finals in the final round as eleventh and 16th, respectively, relatively clearly.

In Apertura 2018 , Patriotas was able to complete the league phase in seventh place and move into the final round. There the club was eliminated from Atlético Huila on penalties. The club finished the return series in 15th place. The Apertura 2019 finished Patriotas in 12th place.

Patriotas Boyacá plays its home games at the Estadio La Independencia . The stadium was completely rebuilt in 2000 and 2009 and has a capacity of around 25,000 seats.
