Martinstift (Moers)
The Martinstift is a three-part building ensemble from the 19th century in Moers , North Rhine-Westphalia , designed for educational purposes . It was built in the classicism style, is a listed building and today houses the city's music school .
History and description
The Martinstift is located in the Vinn district of Moers at Filder Straße 126. The buildings are located on the grounds of the former Gut Fild estate , which Franz Ludwig Zahn acquired in 1837 from the von Essen family . Zahn came from Dresden in 1832 to take over the management of the Moers teacher training college. He also planned a preparatory institute for which he had two teaching buildings built in the late classicism style by an unknown architect between 1841 and 1843 on the grounds of the estate, which also included the 18th century Averdunkshof .
In 1857, Zahn resigned from the service of the seminar director after conflicts with the school bureaucracy. Thereupon the preparatory institute became the "Filder educational institute". In 1885 this passed into the possession of the Moerser Alumnat-Verein , which in the same year set up the first Protestant alumnate of the Rhine province in the buildings with the help of Johannes Zahn . Since then, the system has been called "Martinstift". In 1890 a third building was built by the association. This is orthogonally and centrally between the two existing houses. The monastery has since been abandoned, reopened in 1952, but finally closed in 1970. It has housed the Moers Music School since 1978.
The Martinstift was included in the municipal list of monuments and registered as a monument with the number 9 . The third, central building is used by the music school as a chamber music hall and is now also used as a venue for weddings. In the middle of the complex between the buildings there is a small park. Between 2009 and 2010, the Martinstift was extensively renovated and a small, modern cube was added to the chamber music hall.
