The previous building is dated to the 7th century, probably built under Willibrord and accordingly assigned to the Echternach monastery, among others . The current construction began in the 12th century as a three-aisled pillar basilica , which was consecrated to St. Martinus . The Gothic choir was added in the 15th century, as a result of the Reformation since 1560, the new ones that have survived were created in 1636 by melting down the old bells, a new roof was installed after a fire in 1700 and a new tower in 1792 cultivated. From 1969 to 1972 important maintenance and repair measures were carried out. 12th century 1 May 6, 1982 4th

In 1823 it was used by the newly founded Moers teacher training college. It offered space for 30 seminarians . When this was no longer sufficient, the teachers' college erected a new building in 1866 between Wilhelm-Schroeder-Strasse and Ostring (since 1925 Adolfinum grammar school ). Today Caritas uses the Scheidtmann house. 1794 Apr 13, 1983 19th

Three-aisled neo-Gothic brick pseudo-basilica from 1868 to 1871 with a three apse closure, five bays and a western tower in front, the upper floor and helmet of which had to be renewed after a fire in 1930/31. The design comes from the architect Franken from Kempen. The tracery windows were destroyed by war damage and replaced by narrow, unstructured windows. Two round pillars with four service templates each separate the ships; at the base of the ribbed vault there are three ribs on duty. The leaf capitals with rich naturalistic foliage based on the cathedral in Xanten. The 3 choir windows were designed by Professor Heinrich Dieckmann, executed in 1958 by the glass painters Josef and Hans Mencke in Goch; they represent the resurrection of Christ in the middle, left and right representations from the life of the two patrons St. Joseph and St. Thekla. In the rather unadorned choir there is an 18th century group of visits made of wood in lively, somewhat heavy forms of the Flemish Baroque. Stylistic connections can also be made to the work of Gabriel de Grupello. Altar, ambo and tabernacle stele in sandstone based on a design by Ursula Legge-Suwelack, Bonn, from 1982/83. The two murals in the choir from the time it was built show the birth of Christ and the death of St. Josef, they were discovered after the renovation and restored in 1985. In the tower room a glass window »The water miracle of St. Clemens «, designed by Friedrich Baudri in 1865. 1868-1871 May 6, 1982 3

The cemetery, which serves as a burial place for the citizens of Moers city center, consists of three parts. A cemetery of honor is attached to the main cemetery, especially for those who died in the two world wars. Behind it, in the third part, is the Jewish cemetery , on which the tombstones of Moerser Jewish citizens, as far as they are still present, were placed. In front of a small hill planted with birch trees stands a memorial designed as a tomb for the Jewish citizens who were abducted and murdered from Moers. The neo-Gothic cemetery chapel from 1884, the avenue leading to the chapel and the cemetery wall are listed as historical monuments. 1883-1884 Nov 27, 2006 112

The core of today's brick complex, which dates from different construction times, is the single-nave former Carmelite monastery church from 1448; the oldest part is the area of the first western vaulted yoke, in which remains of the first St. John's Chapel from the middle of the 14th century have been preserved; only a representation of St. Barbara can be seen from the wall frescoes. In 1656 the now reformed parish church was expanded in a cross shape by adding transverse arms, with the south transept being built on the inner walls of the old cloister. In 1843 the church received a neo-Gothic cast iron window tracery with a fish bubble pattern; Inside, a paved cross vault was drawn in over wooden ribs. The three-story brick W-tower in front of it consists of three square and one octagonal tower storey with ogival sound openings; Tracery gallery and octagonal slate-covered pointed hood; Bauzier in ashlar. To the north, polygonal stair tower. The west portal with an open staircase in front of it in pointed arched stepped walls with crab-studded tracery gable. Above that, a large ogival window in tufa walls with tracery. The tower was built in neo-Gothic form in 1891 based on the model of the Christ Church in Bochum. Of the interior, the organ with the baroque prospect from 1787 from the workshop of the organ builder Gerhard Schrey is particularly worth mentioning. When it was built in 1959, the old case was divided into the main organ and the Rückpositiv. Two large Flemish brass chandeliers with eight arms from 1628 and 1634, five smaller ones from 1639. The large picture of the risen Christ in the central window of the choir apse dates from 1927. The two large tablets from 1616 should be noted; once with the Ten Commandments as a foundation of the mayor Arnold Stüning, which also includes a smaller epitaph with the mayor's death sentences; on the other hand the apostolic creed next to the death sayings of the rent master Adolph von Goor and his wife (died 1638) with a noteworthy typeface. The pulpit and church stalls are mainly from 1843. On Steinstrasse there is a passage to the northern transept with a pointed arch as a former entrance to the former town hall, which was connected to the south. 1363

The old cemetery chapel was built in 1803 on the foundations of the old choir of the 11th century Catholic Bonifatius Church, which was destroyed by the chaos of war in the 17th century. The hall church is a plastered brick building with sloping corners and a flat ceiling. It is centrally located on the former cemetery on Rheinberger Strasse, which was actively used until 1880, the oldest in Moers with up to 400 year old gravestones, which is now used as a park. 1803 Nov 14, 1983 26th
