Moers is the seat of the Moers District Court , which is responsible for the cities of Moers and Neukirchen-Vluyn in the southern part of the Wesel district. Around 135,000 people live in the 111 km² judicial district . It is also responsible for the neighboring district court district Rheinberg in detention matters , lay judge court cases and youth lay judge court cases.

The district court building is located at Haagstrasse 7. It was built between 1911 and 1913 in the German Renaissance style. It has a richly decorated stepped gable and is entered in the list of architectural monuments in Moers under number 63 . Together with the neighboring prison, the old prison house, which was built between 1913 and 1914 and is also listed, it forms an important urban ensemble.

Superior courts

The regional court overriding the Moers District Court is the Kleve Regional Court , which in turn is subordinate to the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court . The external criminal chamber of the Kleve Regional Court is located in the court building in Moers .
