Blue Scandinavia was a short-lived Swedish charter airline . It emerged in 1996 from the airline Transwede Leisure and was renamed Britannia Airways AB in 1998 .
history
At the beginning of 1996 the Swedish Transwede was reorganized and its charter flight division was outsourced as an independent airline. The new company was named Transwede Leisure . In autumn 1996 the Transwede Leisure was sold to the Swedish tour operator Fritidsresor , who renamed it Blue Scandinavia on October 28, 1996 . The Blue Scandinavia fleet initially consisted of three McDonnell Douglas MD-83s , two Boeing 757-200s and one Lockheed L-1011 . By mid-1997, the MD-83 and L-1011 machines were replaced by other Boeing 757-200s, which were designed for 223 passengers in the chosen configuration. In addition, the company briefly rented a Boeing 767 during the 1997 summer season .
In December 1997 the British Thomson Travel Group took over the travel company Fritidsresor and its in-house airline. The Thomson Group integrated Blue Scandinavia into the group at the beginning of 1998 as Britannia Airways AB . The company is also often referred to as Britannia Sweden or Britannia Nordic , although it has never officially borne these names. The airline TUIfly Nordic emerged from the Swedish branch of Britannia Airways in 2005 .
