history
The origins of Skyways Express go back to 1940, when the Thuring couple founded an airline called Avia . Avia engaged in taxi, postal and agricultural flights from 1945. In 1976 the company was sold to Gotland entrepreneurs Nils Björkman and Lennart Gustavsson. In 1984 Avia was taken over by the Gotlandsbolaget shipping company . In 1989 Avia and Salair (a Salenia airline) merged. In 1993, after the complete takeover by Salenia, the company was renamed Skyways .
By 1995 Skyways had grown to become Sweden's largest domestic airline, with a fleet of 13 Saab 340s and 3 Fokker F50s. 1997 Skyways took over the majority of shares in Highland Air and its route network. In the same year the cooperation with Scandinavian Airlines began .
After buying the Swedish Airborne in 1998, SAS took over a 25% stake in Salenia. After purchasing Air Express in 1999, the Skyways Group consisted of 4 airlines and served 35 destinations. After purchasing Flying Enterprise in 2000 for the airlines Skyways Express AB were merged , the company is located at 72.7% owned by Salenia , as well as 25% of SAS Scandinavian Airlines and 2.3% of Janus .
In April 2011 it was announced that Skyways Express had bought out competitor City Airline and wanted to fully integrate it. The entire fleet was taken over by the end of 2011, and the City Airline's website was also discontinued.
