Transwede Airways was a Swedish airline based in Gothenburg that existed from 2004 to 2010.
history
The Norwegian airline Braathens had acquired half of the Swedish airline Transwede Airways in September 1996 . In March 1998 Braathens took over this airline entirely and renamed it on April 1, 1998 in Braathens Sverige . After the company was renamed, Braathens continued to own the rights to the Transwede Airways brand .
From 2004, the Braathens Group was active in the wet leasing area and used the Transwede Airways brand name for this business area. The Gothenburg-based company received its operating license on March 29, 2005. The first flight took place on May 8, 2005 with an Avro RJ70 (EI-COQ) on behalf of the regional airline Gotlandsflyg on the route from Stockholm / Bromma to Visby . If necessary, this aircraft was also used by the sister company Malmö Aviation , which is also part of the Braathens Group.
On February 13, 2006, Transwede operated flights for Scandinavian Airlines from Stockholm / Arlanda Airport to London City Airport for the first time . Since then, the airline has been one of the company's most important customers. Transwede had offices in Oslo, Stockholm and Milan.
In March 2010 it was announced that Transwede will cease all business activities on March 31, 2010. The reason is the difficult situation on the charter and leasing market as a result of the economic crisis. The companies' aircraft were transferred to the lessor or to the sister company Malmö Aviation . The operating licenses were also issued.
Destinations
Transwede operated its aircraft on what is known as wet lease for other airlines. Furthermore, charter flights were also occasionally offered. The company had its own ICAO and IATA code and its own callsign, but operated its flights under the name and flight number of the respective lessee. By July 2008, five of the six existing aircraft were operated on behalf of Scandinavian Airlines . Another lessee was the Italian airline Air One , with whom a long-term contract for the use of an Avro RJ70 was concluded on October 6, 2006 . This aircraft was stationed at London City Airport, where the company had set up its own base.
fleet
As of August 2009, the Transwede Airways fleet consisted of five aircraft:
As of September 2010, there were no more aircraft registered on Transwede .
