Sunclass Airlines is a Danish charter airline based in Dragør and based at Copenhagen-Kastrup Airport . It was founded in October 2019 by a group of investors in the legal form of an Anpartsselskab (ApS) as the successor to the Copenhagen- based airline and stock corporation Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavia A / S. The latter was completely transferred to the new company. Operations under the name Sunclass Airlines began on October 31, 2019 with a new Air Operator Certificate .
The company's roots lie in Premiair , founded in 1994 , and MyTravel Airways A / S from 2002 . Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavia emerged from the company in 2008 and became Sunclass Airlines at the end of October 2019.
history
Premiair
On September 15, 1993, the Danish Simon Spies Holding (as owner of the airline Conair of Scandinavia ) and the SAS Leisure Group (as owner of the airline Scanair ) entered into a cooperation that led to the establishment of the charter airline Premiair. Initially, both companies each held half in Premiair. Operations began on January 1, 1994 with two flights from Malmö and Oslo to Las Palmas . At the same time, Conair and Scanair discontinued flight operations under their own names and ceded their aircraft to the new company. Premiair initially used six Airbus A320s , three A300s and four McDonnell Douglas DC-10s . In the first financial year, the company carried 1.2 million passengers.
As early as July 1994, SAS Scandinavian Airlines sold its shares in the company held by the SAS Leisure Group to the British tourism group Airtours. In February 1996, Airtours also acquired the shares in Simon Spies Holding and took over all of Premiair. The airline remained as an independent subsidiary of the British group and continued to operate under the previous brand name until 2002.
MyTravel Airways
In February 2002, the British tourism group Airtours was restructured and renamed the MyTravel Group . The two airlines of the group, the British Airtours International and the Danish Premiair, then appeared under the uniform brand name MyTravel Airways from May 2002, but remained legally two independent companies.
On February 12, 2007 Karstadt Quelle AG announced the merger with the British MyTravel Group. The Thomas Cook Group emerged from the merger of the two companies in June 2007 . Its Danish subsidiary MyTravel Airways was renamed Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavia on March 30, 2008.
At the beginning of February 2019, Thomas Cook announced that it would put the Thomas Cook Group Airline holding company, including Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavia, up for sale; flight operations then continued as normal. On the night of September 22nd to 23rd, 2019, the British Thomas Cook Group filed for bankruptcy after failed recapitalization negotiations. As a result, the flight operations of Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavia had to be stopped. On the evening of September 23, it became known that an agreement could be reached with creditors and banks so that flight operations could resume on September 24.
Sunclass Airlines
On October 30, 2019, it was announced that a group of investors led by the Norwegian investor Petter Stordalen had taken over the Ving Group, which in addition to the airline also includes various tour operator brands such as Globetrotter and Spies, and that all jobs will be retained. A day later, Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavia was renamed Sunclass Airlines.
